Hartford Police Recover Stolen Vehicles and Gun, Make Arrests

HARTFORD — Hartford Police recovered several stolen vehicles, an illegal fire arm and made multiple arrests over the weekend after a recent spike in violent crimes in the South End.

Police conducted a stolen vehicle operation in the South End and found three stolen vehicles.

One vehicle was occupied by two people, one adult and one juvenile. The vehicle also had a loaded firearm.

Hartford Police Arrest Bristol Man in Teen’s Death

HARTFORD — Hartford Police arrested a Bristol man in the death of a Hartford teen and the injury of another on Wednesday.

William Moore, 24, of Bristol was arrested after police said he opened fire on two teens during a personal feud. Seventeen-year-old Karlonzo Taylor died and another 17-year-old was in serious but stable condition at Hartford Hospital.

Taylor’s death was Hartford’s 20th homicide in 2018.

Moor was charged with murder, first-degree assault and criminal possession of a firearm, police said.

The shooting occurred at Park and Zion streets  at about 1:30 p.m.

Police said they responded to shots fired at 898 Park St and found two victims. One victim was shot four times, police said.

Moore was held on a $1.5 million bond.

Hartford Police Arrest Robbery Suspect

HARTFORD — Hartford Police on Wednesday arrested a teenager suspected of masterminding several robberies in the city.

From September 2017 through November 2017, Hartford Police have been investigating more than a dozen internet armed robberies in Hartford. The internet web sites that were used to coordinate the robberies were Offer Up, Let it Go and Craigslist.

During the robberies, three victims were shot, several victims were pistol-whipped, cash, jewelry and phones were stolen.

Police arrested the 17-year-old suspect on Wednesday and charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

More arrests are expected.

Hartford Police are asking everyone to use a safe transaction site such as one provided in front of the Hartford Police Department on High Street for all online transactions.

Hartford Police Arrest Bank Robbery Suspects

Hartford Police is investigating a recent bank robbery on Franklin Avenue

The first suspect, Eric Jimenez, 35, of Hartford was arrested for first degree robbery and third degree larceny.

The second suspect, Carlos Salgado, 47, of Hartford was arrested for third degree larceny, for engaging police in a pursuit, reckless driving and interfering with police.

According to police, officers responded to reports of a silent hold up at to rob People’s Bank at 290 Franklin Ave.

On Nov. 6, the first suspect entered the bank and passed a note to the teller demanding money and implying that he was armed with a firearm and a bomb, police said.

Hartford Detectives are still trying to locate Jimenez. Also, Wethersfield PD Detectives were in Hartford investigating a different bank robbery in their jurisdiction with a similar suspect description and M.O.

While in Manchester the suspect’s car was spotted and police pursued him after he drove away. Officers pursued the suspect and vehicle, which abruptly stopped and they fled on foot. Police then pursued and apprehended the suspects in the area of Capitol Avenue and Laurel Street.

The suspect vehicle, a 2003 Cadillac CTS, had previously been stolen vehicle from East Hartford, police said.

Hartford Police Arrest West Hartford Man for Rape

HARTFORD —  A West Hartford man was arrested for sexual assault after luring a woman to a mutual assistance agency under pretense of helping her with citizenship, police said.

Hartford Police arrested Le Nghi, 56, of 46 Brace Road, West Hartford on Friday for first degree sexual assault and second-degree unlawful restraints.

Police said Nghi allegedly lured  the woman to The Connecticut Coalition of Mutual Assistance at 143 Madison Ave. in Hartford, saying he could help her with getting her citizenship.

Nghi allegedly the woman his services in exchange for sex. He then raped the woman and held her captive without her consent.

Hartford Police Department detectives believe that if the alleged allegations  prove to be true, that there may be other victims who have yet to come forward.

Hartford Police Arrest Suspect in Narcotics Bust

HARTFORD — A local man was arrested on Friday for pushing narcotics  in the South End of Hartford, police said.

Travale Givens, 33, of 129 South St. was arrested for alleged assault in the first degree, possession of a firearm and narcotics.

His bond was set for $800,000.

Police said they searched the Given’s home and found one firearm, a shoulder holster, ammunition and more than 80 grams of cocaine on the March 7 at about 4:00 p.m. when the Department Special Operations Group, the Shooting Task Force, D.E.A and South End C.S.O. executed a search and seizure warrant at Given’s South Street apartment.

In addition to the illegal firearm, they found a shoulder holster, and ammunition,  scales, bags, mixers, and cutting agents were also found, police said.

Police also said that they found Givens on Airport Road, where he was attempting to hide an about a quarter kilogram of powder cocaine (247 grams) inside his pants. There, he he was taken into custody.

Police said Givens had 31 prior Hartford arrests, which includes several narcotics violations, and an assault in the 1st degree and firearm conviction.

Hartford Cops Arrest Suspect in City’s First Homicide

HARTFORD – Hartford Police arrested a Manchester man for the death of a Hartford resident, who was fatally shot several times in a parking lot early January, the city’s first homicide victim in 2014.

The suspect, Deranna Fletcher, 28, of 39 Buckland St. in Manchester, was arrested on Jan. 29 and charged with murder, murder conspiracy, criminal possession of firearms. His bond was set at $2 million

On Jan. 15, 2014 Hartford Police Department Major Crimes Division initiated the homicide investigation after neighbors reported several shots and saw a car drive off in the direction of Asylym Avenue.

The victim, Mark McNickle, was  found with several gun shot wounds and taken to St. Francis Hospital, where he died at 10: 22 p.m., police said..

Police told this story: On Jan. 29, the detectives developed a suspect who allegedly shot McNickle several times in the rear parking lot at 85 Sumner St.

Detectives worked overnight and obtained two search warrants through the Connecticut States Attorney’s Office. One of the warrants was for an address in East Hartford and the other warrant was for 39 Buckland St. #1522 Manchester CT. Hartford Detectives collaborated with members of the East Hartford Police Department, EHPD SWAT, the Manchester Police Department, and the CREST SWAT Team.

By Thursday at 5:15 a.m. the operation was launched and both high-risk search warrants were simultaneously executed.

At the Manchester address, the below listed accused, Fletcher was located.

Also located within the apartment was 98 pounds of marijuana, $39,000 in cash, two firearms, ammunition and related evidence.

Following the execution of the search warrant,  Fletcher was arrested and charged by Manchester Police Narcotics Detectives.

Fletcher was then released by the Manchester Police Department into the custody of the Hartford Police Department. Fletcher was then taken to the HPD where the arrest warrant was served.

Fletcher is is being held on a $2,000,000 Bond.
