Commission Approves Funds for Townley Apartments

HARTFORD —  The State Bond Commission on Friday approved a $1.8 million grant for upgrades to Hartford’s Townley Street Apartments in the Asylum Hill neighborhood.

The $1.8 million grant-in-aid from the state Department of Housing was requested for new roofs, windows and insulation, kitchen and bath upgrades, replacement of existing boilers and hot water heaters, and interior and exterior building improvements including a new closed circuit TV security system for the 28 units.

In a statement released after the Bond Commission’s meeting, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said the availability of housing was a top priority because “the benefits extend far beyond the families and communities immediately impacted.”

State Representative Matthew Ritter (D-Hartford) praised  announcement.

“I want to thank the Governor and the Bond Commission for understanding that this funding will allow the Townley Street Apartments to be more environmentally-friendly, and more livable for residents,” said Ritter who is serving his  second term serving Hartford’s 1st Assembly district. “It is important to make these necessary investments in Hartford, allowing places like Townley Street Apartments to be available for use long-term.”
