City Gears Up For St. Patrick’s Day


HARTFORD — The city is expecting 30,ooo people to enter the city for the St. Patrick’s Day parade this Saturday.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and will move along on Capitol Avenue, then onto Main Street, Asylum Street and Ford Street. It will end at  the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch.
Donald and Bridget McSweegan of Wethersfield is slated as the parade’s grand marshals. Donald McSweegan, 73, is an army veteran and a retired postmaster. He was born and raised in Hartford. His great-grandfather immigrated to the U.S. from Ireland. Bridget, 76, was born in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland.

The Hartford Parking Authority is offering free parking Saturday for parade spectators and participants.

A St. Patrick’s Day Mass is scheduled for  Friday at 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church on Main Street..
