Hartford Braces For Another Snow Storm, Depleted Budget

By Fran Wilson, Staff Writer

HARTFORD —  Again, city officials are asking residents to remove left over snow from last week because another snow storm and sleet will blanket Hartford on Tuesday.

Weather officials across the state are sounding the alarm.

They said snow, sleet, freezing rain and will begin to fall on Tuesday morning and continue well into Wednesday night.

The snow could be light to moderate at times, with about 3 and 6 inches across the state, according to weather reports. The snow will fall throughout the morning and into the afternoon.

Forecasters said the precipitation may taper off on Tuesday night before returning on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, city officials said they were ready for the impending storm.

According to a release from the mayor’s office, DPW crews will start to pre-treat and plow.  As many as 40 city vehicles are available for snow removal, including converted sanitation trucks.

In addition, Tuesday’s trash and recyclable pick-up schedule is on.  However, Wednesday’s is still to be determined depending on the intensity of the storm.

A parking ban is expected; exact hours will be announced.

Mayor Pedro Segarra said earlier in a statement that the snow removal budget of $730, 206 is now down to less than $200,000. This includes work done today to clear snow along Park Street between Main Street and Park Terrace; Blue Hills Avenue Commercial District; and opening lanes along Homestead Avenue and American Row.

The city also released shelter update:

Immaculate Conception (860-724-4823) at 560 Park Street is open, as is McKinney Shelter (860-722-6922) at 34 Huyshope Avenue.
