Police Arrest Man For Stabbing Incident


HARTFORD — City police on Saturday arrested a local man after he stabbed someone with a pair of scissors on Maple Ave .

Police arrested Juan Torres, 41, of 62 Campfield Ave. without incident. He was awaiting a court date after the Monday holiday.

Officers responded to a call from 545 Maple St. and found the unidentified victim with five punctured wounds on his left thigh area and one next to the right eye, police said. The victim was transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment.

Torres was located at the same address of the incident, 545 Maple St., and taken into custody, police said.

Police Arrest Christmas Eve Shooter


HARTFORD –Police arrested a Bloomfield man with the Dec. 24, 2010 murder of Tyrell Shaw, who died after being taken to St. Francis Hospital.
Joshua Cupe, 29, faces charges of murder, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm and reckless endangerment, according to police report.

Cupe’s arraignment has yet to be determined, police said.

According to police,  Cupe allegedly shot 24-year-old Shaw in the torso at 4:36 p.m. on Christmas Eve on Edgewood Street.  Shaw was transported from the scene to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, where he died.

On Friday, police found Cupe hiding in a closet at 24 Elizabeth St. in Bloomfield. He was arrested on escape from an earlier custody charges.

Police Make Keney Park Arrests

HARTFORD — City police arrested two local men yesterday for allegedly attempting to sell illegal drugs.

Police arrested Donovan Allen, 20, of 66 Adams St., and Davian Burgher, 18, of 57 Pershing St.

Both men face charges of possession of marijuana and possession with intent to sell a controlled substance.

According to police, on Jan. 6, at about 2:15 p.m., police responded to complaints about illegal drug sales occurring in Keney Park.  Hartford Police Department’s Intelligence Division conducted surveillance of Keney Park and during that time, they observed numerous street level drug transactions.

About 1.5 pounds of marijuana and $246.00 in US currency were seized, police said.

Police Arrest Virginia Man For Stolen Pistol


HARTFORD — An-out-of-state visitor to the city got himself a Christmas gift: a 9 mm gun.

But it didn’t belong to him.

On Friday, Dec. 25, at about 11:05 p.m., Hartford Police Officer Kevin Brodie responded to a report of a firearm stolen from a vehicle.  The firearm was described as a 9mm Ruger P95PR.. police said.

Police then arrested Lee Wilson, 38, of 2619 Pocaty Road, Chesapeake, Virginia on Chrismas Day and charged hime with theft of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, and  having a pistol without a permit.

The stolen firearm was also recovered from Wilson(pictured below). He was visiting in Connecticut and was apparently staying at at 22 Catherine St.

Police Seek Teen-Aged Burglary Suspect


HARTFORD — Police are seeking a teenager, who allegedly fled the scene on Friday after being caught with an accomplice in the middle of a burglary at Nelton Court.

The teenager is reported to be a Hispanic male with a light complexion, 15-17 years old, about 5’6” tall and weighs 170 lbs.  He was last seen wearing a gray “puffy” coat, police said.

According to a police report, officers  responded to the area of Nelton Court for an active burglary last Friday at about 4 p.m.  Upon arrival, Lt Michael Manson saw two males cutting copper pipes inside the apartment building at 71 Nelton Court. 

After a foot pursuit, Lt. Manson secured one of the males, a 15-year-old whose identity is not being released due to his age.

Police Arrest Man After Domestic Violence Call


HARTFORD —  A city man was arrested on Tuesday after police responded to a domestic violence call.

Hanif Solomon, 36, of 255 Sission Ave., was charged with allegedly breach of peace, criminal possession of firearm, interfering with police, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a pistol with an altered serial number  and theft of a firearm.

Police said they responded to a call at about 7: 30 a.m. to 575 Farmington Ave on a report of a domestic violence complaint.

Police gave this account of the incident.

Upon arrival, officers learned that the male suspect, who the victim reported typically carries a firearm, had pushed her down and then fled to an apartment inside 575 Farmington Ave.

Officers searched the area where the male suspect had fled and located the accused in a bedroom fidgeting with a dresser drawer.

The accused was arrested and during a search of the dresser drawer, police recovered a Rossi .38 caliber special pistol. It was later determined that the gun was reported stolen in Nashville, Tennessee.

Police said Solomon is a convicted felon who can not legally posses a firearm.

The victim declined medical attention, police said.

Police Arrest Nude Man Near Supreme Court


HARTFORD —  A city man was arrested today for allegedly masturbating in full view of a female who was parked in the lot adjacent to a Russ Street apartment building, police said.

The suspect, Hector Luis Vasquez, aka Hector Juan Vasquez, 48, of 26 Russ St., Apt. A-4, was charged with public indecency, interfering with police, and breach of peace.

On Sept. 29,  at about 6:00 am, Hartford Police responded to the area near the State Supreme Court on a report of a naked man standing next to a fully opened window masturbating in full view of a female who was parked in the lot adjacent to 26 Russ St., police said.

This morning Vasquez allegedly masturbated for about 10 minutes until police arrived on the scene.

Vasquez then moved from the open window and fled.

Hartford Police Captain Joseph Buyak found Vasquez hiding in an alcove in the hall way of the apartment building.

A witness positively identified Vasquez, police said.

Similar lewd acts have been reported by women working at the Supreme Court during previous weeks, police said.

Police Seize Counterfeits From Troy Taylor Store


HARTFORD — City police seized tons of counterfiet merchandises from Troy Taylor Store on Blue Hills Avenue.

According to police, community service officers Carlo Faienza and Theodore Sposito and others from the Northwest Conditions unit executed a search and seizure warrant at Troy Taylor Store located at 643 Blue Hills Ave. 

The search warrant was the result of information developed by Officer Faienza and Officer Hiram Otera that several computers stolen from the Dwight Annex School located at 417 Franklin Ave. had been allegedly sold from Troy’s, police said. Both officers then determined that counterfeit CD’s and DVD’s were also being sold at this location, police said.

Police seize merchandise from Troy Taylor Store

The search warrant resulted in the arrest of  the following six individuals:

Troy Anthony Hicks, 53, of 91 Oakridge Dr., Windsor Locks was charged with counterfeit marks and labels, CD’s and DVD’s without marks and labels, possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell narcotics and operating a drug factory.

Troy Anthony Hicks, Jr. 23 of 126 Columbus Circle Apt B-1, East Hartford, was charged with counterfeit marks and labels, CD’s and DVD’s without marks and labels, possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell narcotics and operating a drug factory.

Aubrey Diquana Hicks, 20, of 56 Trumbull Ave., Plainville, was charged with counterfeit marks and labels, CD’s and DVD’s without marks and labels, possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell narcotics and operating a drug factory.

Tylon, 34 of 91 Oakridge Dr., Windsor Locks, was charged with counterfeit marks and labels, CD’s and DVD’s without marks and labels, possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell narcotics and operating a drug factory.

Hartford Police Catch A Thief On Zion Street

HARTFORD – Hartford Police arrested a local man who allegedly on Friday robbed a tag sale store with a sawed-off shot gun.

The man, Jerry Aviles, 35, of 38 Burnham St., Hartford, was arrested  and charged with first degree robbery, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, criminal possession of a firearm, fourth degree larceny and first degree burglary.

Police said Aviles  entered the Tag Sale Store at 129 Zion St. and demanded money. He stole $260 in cash, four laptop computers and then fled.

The owner of the store then flagged down Officer Nicholas Trigila, who saw Aviles as he fled on foot. Trigila called for back up and they circled the area, police said.

Police recovered the sawed-off shot gun, 22 rounds of ammunition and four laptops on Zion Street just south of the business. And they found Aviles hiding in the bushes at the corner of Curtiss and Zion streets, police said.

Police Arrest Windsor Man For Magnolia Street Shooting


WINDSOR — Police yesterday arrested a Windsor man for his alleged involvement in the May shooting on Magnolia Street.

The suspect, Gregory Clark, 22,  of 40 Pepperbush Way, Windsor, was charged with first degree robbery, first degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, and attempted murder.

Clark also had other outstanding warrants, police said.

According to police, on May 26 at 10: 46 p.m., Hartford police responded to the area of Mather and Magnolia streets on a report that shots were fired.

When they arrived,  officers found the shooting victim on the front door steps of 234 Mather Street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his left leg.  The victim was transported to St Francis Hospital for treatment and has since recovered, police said.


Police later identified Clark, a previously convicted felon, as the shooter.
