Rell: H1N1 Vaccine Available for All Residents

HARTFORD – Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced today that the state has now received enough H1N1 vaccine to make it available to anyone in Connecticut who would like to be vaccinated against the H1N1 flu.

More than 900,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine have been distributed in Connecticut to doctors, local health departments and other providers who pre-registered with the Department of Public Health. High priority groups, such as pregnant women, young children, medical personnel and first responders, received the vaccine first.

“The vaccine is now available for anyone interested in getting it,” Rell said in a statement released today.

Those interested in getting vaccinated should contact their doctor or the local health department designated to administer the vaccine.

Local health departments can be found at www.ct.gov/dph/mda.

City Releases Schedule for HINI Vaccines

HARTFORD – The city has released a tentative schedule to administer H1N1 vaccines at certified school sites during November and December.

Because of the limited supply of the vaccine across the state, distribution at each designated school will be based on when the supply of the vaccine is expected to arrive at the site. As a result, dates may change, according to school officials.

Schools that are not official vaccination sites have been scheduled to send their students to the nearest certified site and shuttle bus service will be provided.

Hartford Public Schools is also planning to open four vaccination sites (one in each school zone) on Saturdays.

Dates for the Saturday clinics will be released as soon as it is confirmed that the additional vaccines for these sites will be available.

This week, students also began taking home H1N1 information packets in English and Spanish that include a vaccination consent form. Parents or guardians who choose to have their children vaccinated are advised to return the signed consent form to the school nurse and plan to attend the specific clinic that is assigned to their child’s school. Only students whose parents have signed the consent form will receive it, officials say.

The 15 schools certified as vaccination sites are: Bulkeley High School, Hartford Public High School, Weaver High School, Classical Magnet, Sports and Medical Sciences, the University High School of Science and Engineering, Bellizzi Middle School, Hartford Magnet Middle School, Kinsella Magnet School of Performing Arts, Sanchez Elementary School, M.D. Fox Elementary School, MLK Elementary School, SAND Elementary, Moylan Elementary and the Noah Webster Micro Society Magnet School.
