Our Vision:
To build strong communities through civic journalism.
Our Mission:
The Connecticut Alliance for Better Communities, Inc. was created for the charitable and educational purpose of encouraging and increasing civic engagement of Greater Hartford residents by
- educating youth and families about various social services and how to best access those services
- educating residents about how the government and the media work, and how to effect positive change.
- offering opportunities to explore and engage directly in civic journalism.
Our History:
CABC, a 501 (c) 3 organization, was founded in January 2004 by several Greater Hartford residents who participated in 2003 Leadership Greater Hartford class. LGH is a nonprofit organization that offfers comprehensive leadership training for working-age professionals, older adults and high school students.
The group conceived the plan in summer of 2003 and shared it with several LGH class members. In January 2004, 10 people met at the Hartford Public Library and discussed having an independent newspaper for the region. The discussion gave birth to an organization with a three-prong approach to civic participation.
The catalyst and founder, Ann-Marie Adams, believed this endeavor was one way to help strengthen the capital city and the its surrounding neighborhoods, making Greater Hartford more cohesive. This belief is strengthen each day with your support.
