PUBLIC AUCTION

The City of Hartford will conduct a live public auction to sell city-owned properties on Thursday, May 27th at 6:30 PM.  The auction will be held in the Atrium at City Hall, 550 Main Street, in Downtown Hartford.  Bidder registration will begin at 5:30 PM.  The auction is open to the public, and there is no cost to register as a bidder.
On Wednesday, May 26th an informational seminar will be held for the public from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the plaza level conference room at 260 Constitution Plaza, in Downtown Hartford.  Interested parties are strongly encouraged to attend.  You can pre-register for the auction, view a slideshow presentation of the sale properties, and ask questions about the properties or auction process.

OVERVIEW
The Board of Directors of the Urban League of Greater Hartford (“ULGH”), seeks a dynamic and skilled president/chief executive officer who will lead the organization in effectively achieving its important mission and vision: To promote the self-empowerment of individuals in the Connecticut Capital Region to achieve educational, occupational and economic equality for themselves and their families.

The basic functions of the president/CEO position include, but are not limited to, the following: General Administration, Fiscal Administration, Building a Vision, Planning, HR Administration, Advocacy, Fundraising, Community Relations, and Strategic Planning.

PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
These are the minimum requirements for the position of president/CEO. Prior experience within the Urban League is desirable.

Professional background
• Proven record of accomplishment of leadership and management in community-based organizations, with 5+ years of senior nonprofit or for-profit management experience.
• Experience in development and implementation of social service programs, program evaluation, advocacy, public education, fiscal management, strategic planning, resource development, board and volunteer relations, community mobilization and collaboration, and personnel management.
• Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree strongly preferred) in business administration, social work, public administration or an appropriate discipline.
• Proven record of accomplishment as a fundraiser from a variety of sources. Demonstrated success building and leading teams and sustaining effective relationships with staff, board, clients, funders, lenders, and other relevant stakeholders, and demonstrated management experience, including supervision of professional and administrative staff.
• Understanding of and experience with nonprofit financial management and budgeting.
• Additional qualifications include excellent organizational and communications skills, grant/proposal writing experience, and government/community relations’ experience. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals, including potential funders, politicians, members of diverse communities, board members and staff.
• Experience in relationship-building, development and maintenance of strategic alliances.
• Familiarity with related social and economic issues.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize without compromising quality and agency objectives; enthusiasm, energy and a good sense of humor.
• Working in partnership with board and staff in carrying out the ULGH mission. Communicating clearly, professionally, honestly and effectively with board and staff are all critical skills. ULGH Board of Directors seeks a self-disciplined, internally motivated professional with the ability to represent staff interests to the board and to convey board priorities to the staff in an effective manner.

UNESCO International Leadership Training Programme

The UNESCO Chair & Institute of Comparative Human Rights at the University of Connecticut invites applications for the sixth annual International Leadership Programme: A Global Intergenerational Forum.
The Forum seeks to empower young leaders by involving them in finding solutions to emerging human rights problems, and nurturing individuals to be effective leaders in the field of human rights. To this end, the Forum will:
  • Introduce participants to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
  • Build a network of solidarity among human rights leaders
  • Expand the knowledge relevant to human rights practice
  • Provide tools and a platform for open debates
  • Provide programmes, activities and processes necessary for human rights leadership
  • Promote the sharing of experiences and understanding
  • Showcase speakers on such topics as: health and human rights, education, the environment, the plight of child soldiers, the use of media, fundraising, conflict resolution and transformation; litigation and advocacy

The UNESCO Chair will provide all conference participants with dormitory housing, meals, ground transportation in Connecticut, resource materials and a certificate of participation.

Young people between the ages of 18-30, with community service experience, and with demonstrated ability to work on solutions to human rights problems, should apply. Relevant issues include, but are not limited to, human trafficking, the plight of children, refugees, hunger, HIV/AIDs, gender discrimination, racism, classism, the environment and peace education.

Conference will be held in English only. Fluency in English is required. Applicants will be selected based on the strength of their application essay, demonstrated commitment to human rights (practical/hands-on experience), potential impact on the individual and their potential contribution to the Forum, regional and gender representation.
